About my teaching
I enjoy teaching writing classes the most because I have always liked writing and I feel
that through writing students can easily measure our progress in their language
learning. Students often find writing boring and difficult so I love the challenge of
creating interesting writing classes and the satisfaction I get when my students become
interested in the subject. I also enjoy teaching other skills such as listening, speaking,
reading, TOEFL, and critical thinking.
I became interested in using the Internet for teaching when I was a graduate student
and worked in an online writing lab to help other students around the world learn how to
write academic English. After I finished graduate school, I took a certification course in
teaching online where I learned how to create websites and online activities for my
students. Now, I incorporate online aspects into most of my classes, which helps my
students become more active language learners as they find resources on the Internet
to practice English and complete their assignments. The online portions of my classes
also teach the students valuable computer skills that will help them whether they decide
to enter the workforce or move on to a university after studying here at St. Mary
College. Recently I have also developed four online writing classes that are taught
through the St. Mary College extension program.
I've been teaching at St. Mary College, a small college specializing in English, for the
past threef years. St. Mary College is a small, friendly school where the students,
teachers, and staff are supportive and interested in trying new things. Our family-like
atmosphere fosters a learning environment that proves successful and rewarding for
everyone involved.
I hope you enjoy looking through my homepage, trying some of my original activities and
materials, and learning English.
